Flyover Costing in Euros
As soon as the use of aircraft for testing is mentioned, many respond immediately that the costs will be too high. We all tend to forget that in the 21st century, air travel is often cheaper than railways or even the taxi to the airport!
The following provides a very rough guide to the costs, which may be involved in a flyover. However every flyover is unique and has to be priced individually. The cost of your flyover may therefore be significantly less than the figures indicated below, which have been developed on the basis that the testing scenario is unknown, the area of testing is unknown and the number of flying hours necessary to conduct the tests is unknown.
On the assumption that a particular flyover would require 1 full day of activity, a maximum hourly rate of €1500/hour is appropriate. On top of this would be the air movement costs i.e. the cost of moving the aircraft to the test area and landing fees. The air movement hourly fee would be less than the €1500/hour quoted above. Landing fees at small airfields in Europe with a tarmac or concrete runway would be about €50 per landing.
Assuming the aircraft is in the air for 5 hours and that it lands 3 times, the maximum cost would be €7650 plus the air movement fee. Assuming that the plane is in the air for 4 hours to arrive and return from the flyover site, the cost could be of the order of €4000. On these figures a budget of €12,000 would be an appropriate working assumption.
It must be stressed that these are very rough costings. Furthermore, if a flyover is required in a part of the World remote from the UK, a local aeroplane might be chartered to conduct the trial, with a consequent reduction in air movement costs.
A typical flyover report is provided here for additional information; this provides information on a specific flyover project performed by TestTech. However some location information and other details are not provided in order to respect commercial confidentiality.
Please contact TestTech Europe if you would like to discuss the costs of undertaking a particular flyover.
