United States

The regulations and spectrum related parameters and limits governing the use of radio frequencies in the United States are contained in the Federal Regulations. Industry bodies may develop operational standards, if it is deemed to be in the public interest. The regulatory process is conducted through a formal consultative mechanism.

Part 15 contains the rules relating to unintentional radiators and in addition to the limits stated, there is an overriding requirement that unintentional radiators shall not cause interference to radiocommunications. All networks are covered by Part 15 requirements.

In addition Part 76 of the Federal Regulations contains the specific requirements for cable television networks. These requirements contain two sets of emission limits at ground level, in certain aeronautical frequency bands (108 – 137 MHz and 225 – 400 MHz) and outside these bands. In addition, in the aeronautical frequency bands it possible to conduct flyover tests on the cable TV network as an alternative to extensive ground testing. It is a requirement that the network is tested every 12 months if aeronautical frequencies are utilised to conduct flyover testing. It is also specified that the performance of the network shall be tested twice per year, which includes checking emission levels leaking from the cable.

TestTech Europe has the capability to conduct ground and flyover measurements in accordance with Part 76 of the US Federal Regulations as well as European standards and most national standards.
